There is a high risk that Uyghur forced labour has been used in the manufacture of some solar panels entering the UK. This is because most solar panels use refined silicon, known as polysilicon, to convert sunlight into electricity and the Xinjiang Region of China, where the Chinese government has placed possibly millions of indigenous Uyghur and Kazakh people in coercive labour schemes, accounts for approximately 45% of the world’s solar-grade polysilicon supply.

Therefore Chapmans has made the positive and ethical step of introducing a policy to only install panels where the manufacturer has provided a statement to confirm their supply chain excludes the use of raw materials from the Xinjiang region of China. For this reason some panel sizes and wattage may not be available to us.

Chapmans worked with the customer to see how the outside gable wall could be utilized and as a result Chapmans installed an enclosure to house the electrical equipment. The installation also included two 10kWh Solar Edge batteries and solar panels on both the main roof and a flat roof area. The customer was delighted with all that Chapmans achieved.

Another customer reported the following after installation of their batteries “. The first graph shows usage pre battery installation for October 2021 which amounts to 76kWh grid use and the second is a full month with battery installed for October 2022 showing 11kWh of import. For the same period the Solar Edge app shows 201kWh & 225kWh produced respectively.”
